Mapping DLQI to EQ-5D Health Utility in Chinese Patients with Moderate-to-Severe Psoriasis

Recently, the collaborative methodology study between Normin Health, Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, and Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS), titled "Mapping Dermatology Life Quality Index with EQ-5D health utility index score in Chinese patients with moderate to severe psoriasis," was successfully published in the Journal of Comparative Effectiveness Research. The study developed and validated statistical mapping algorithms to estimate EuroQol 5-dimension (EQ-5D) health utility scores directly from the disease-specific Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) in Chinese patients with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis.

Model Development & Data Source: Utilized real-world registry data from 287 Chinese patients with moderate-to-severe psoriasis, establishing and internally cross-validating 12 candidate statistical mapping models across ordinary least squares (OLS), generalized linear models (GLM), and Tobit regression.
Major Findings:
Robust Predictive Fit: DLQI total score demonstrated a strong inverse linear relationship with EQ-5D utility scores. The optimal model based on DLQI total score exhibited outstanding goodness-of-fit and stability across clinical subgroups.
Overcoming Data Collection Barriers: The mapping function allows researchers to derive accurate preference-based utility weights solely from routinely collected clinical DLQI records, eliminating the need for burdensome dual-instrument data collection.
Clinical and Policy Implications:
This study solves a critical methodological hurdle in dermatological health economics by providing a validated, localized mapping algorithm. It empowers health economists to unlock existing clinical trials and real-world registries for cost-utility analyses and market access submissions in China.
