Real-World Performance of EQ-5D-5L in Chinese Patients with Hematologic Malignancies


Recently, the collaborative study between Normin Health and the hematology team at Xiangya Hospital, Central South University (led by Prof. Yajing Xu), titled "Reliability and validity of EuroQol-5 Dimensions-5 Levels in patients with haematologic malignancies: a cross-sectional study in China," was successfully published in the SCI journal BMJ Open. The study evaluated the reliability, validity, and concordance of the EQ-5D-5L instrument against health preferences elicited via Time Trade-Off (TTO) across Chinese patients with multiple myeloma, acute leukemia, and lymphoma.

Clinical and Policy Implications:
This study cautions against a uniform approach to health utility measurement across hematologic oncology. The findings provide empirical guidance for health economists and trial designers when selecting utility weights, incorporating disease-specific PRO instruments, and modeling QALYs for innovative oncology therapies.
